Introduction
Print on demand (POD) means each copy is printed only when someone orders it. No inventory, no minimum order, no boxes in the garage. The trade-off is a higher cost per copy than an offset print run of thousands.

Costs
What a POD book costs
The cost of each copy depends on: Page count: the biggest factor.
Trim size: 5.5 8.5 in and 6 9 in are the US standards for novels.
Interior: black-and-white is far cheaper than color.
Binding: paperback (perfect-bound) or hardcover (casewrap or dust jacket).
Paper: cream for fiction, white for nonfiction and images.
Your earnings per copy = list price − printing cost − the platform's share or margin. On BookMarket: list price
