FORMATTING
Formatting that readers never notice
Good typesetting is invisible: chapters that start cleanly, no orphaned lines, a table of contents that works. We turn your manuscript into a reflowable ebook and a print-ready interior that look right everywhere.

Two Kinds Of File
Ebook and print are different jobs
Ebook (EPUB)
A reflowable file: text adapts to the reader's screen and
font size. We build a clean EPUB 3 with a linked table of
contents, styled headings, scene breaks and embedded
metadata. It works in BookMarket's reader and in every
other major store.
Print interior (PDF)
A fixed layout at your exact trim size, with chosen fonts,
margins, running heads, page numbers and drop caps
or ornaments. We prepare it to your printer's specs,
including Lulu's for BookMarket print editions.
Special Layouts
Complex books welcome
Footnotes and endnotes, tables, poetry with precise line breaks, recipes, and illustrated or picture-book layouts
line handling, children's picture-book layouts
What'S Included
What you get
Front and back matter: title page, copyright page, dedication, table of contents, about the author, also-by and

Pricing
What formatting costs
Formatting prices depend on length and complexity: a straightforward novel costs far less than a cookbook or a
Project BookMarket price

Before You Send Your Manuscript
Get your manuscript ready
Finish editing and proofreading first. Changes after layout cost time and money.
Use real heading styles for chapter titles (Heading 1), not bold text.
Don't use tabs or spaces to indent. Let the formatter handle it.
Send images at print resolution (300 DPI at final size).
Questions and answers
Can't I just upload a Word file?
Many platforms convert Word files, but the results vary, especially for print. A professionally formatted file looks right everywhere and avoids reader complaints.
Will the files work outside BookMarket?
Yes. The EPUB and print PDF can be used with any retailer or printer.
What trim size should I use?
For most novels in the US, 5.5 8.5 in or 6 9 in. We'll recommend one based on your genre and page count. Get a formatting quote /contact?topic=services
