Readers browsing independent books are used to paying $2.99–$9.99 for a full-length novel. Short reads and novellas sell at $0.99–$2.99, and specialist nonfiction can go higher. Because the card fee includes a fixed 30¢, very low prices lose a bigger share to it: at $0.99 you receive about $0.66, while from $2.99 up you keep about 87% or more of the sale.
