The History of England, from the Accession of James II. Complete Contents of the Five Volumes

"The History of England, from the Accession of James II" by Lord Macaulay is a five-volume work published in 1848. It chronicles seventeen turbulent years of British history, from James II's reign through the Glorious Revolution to William III's death in 1702. Macaulay pioneered a dramatic narrative style while maintaining scholarly rigor, interpreting this period as England's transformation from superstition and autocracy toward constitutional balance and freedom. His bold, progressive vision—sometimes called the Whig interpretation—shaped historical writing for generations, though later scholars challenged his one-sided portrayal of heroes and villains.
